I’m a fan of heritage
Whether you're a novice or a seasoned enthusiast, come and explore the traces and remains of the Pays du Roi Morvan.
Approaching any type of heritage allows you to step back into the past, whether near or far. Whether cultural or natural, this heritage has been handed down to us. It brings us face to face with, or reacquaint us with, major historical periods, artistic movements, significant episodes in local history, people who have left their mark on our collective memory, ways of life in days gone by, etc...
Our region, in the far west of Morbihan, has been inhabited for a very long time. Archaeological remains attest to human occupation as far back as prehistoric times, but the archaeological evidence stretches back to the latest periods covered by the discipline. The ecclesiastical network is still visible. Starting in late Antiquity, it gradually took shape with the immigration of Breton settlers, and then evolved right up to modern times. Proof of this can be found in the many toponymic clues and the dense religious heritage that makes the Pays du Roi Morvan a favourite destination for lovers of sacred art. The rural habitat, noble and peasant, for the medieval and Ancien Régime periods is homogeneous. The quality of the architecture, which has endured down the centuries, bears witness to the continuity of skills and know-how; the same is true of the quality of the urban buildings in the historic centres, albeit in a more heterogeneous way. And as a reminder of a way of life of yesteryear, the discreet elements of small-scale heritage are still very much a part of the landscape.
