Walking the paths of Le Saint

Paol ar Wern circuit

A short 3km warm-up on the Paol Ar Wern circuit to get this weekend in the Pays du Roi Morvan off to a gentle start.

Paol ar Wern was a Breton bard born in 1866 in Langonnet, in the village of Minez Levenez. Around the age of 10, he was sent to boarding school at theabbey. There, guided by the monks, he awoke a desire to sing about his part of Brittany.

You've had a good warm-up on a short route, now it's time to get down to business... But first, a picnic in the village of Le Saint, which has been awarded the Villes et Villages Fleuris (Towns and Villages in Bloom) label.

The Minez Pempen trail

This attractive 13km trail will take you through the Saint countryside, along its ancient sunken lanes. On these paths, the expression "going green" takes on its full meaning.

Sleeping in a gîte d'étape in the Pays du roi Morvan

After this first day, you'll probably need a rest. Here are several possibilities, located as close as possible, for spending the night:

For dinner, you have two options: cook at the gîte or discover one of the restaurants in the Pays du Roi Morvan.

Crapahuter sur les Crêtes des Montagnes Noires (Crapahier on the crests of the Montagnes Noires)

After a hearty breakfast, it's off to Gourin, the highest town in Morbihan. Be warned, the programme for this second day promises to be more strenuous than that of the previous day.

To avoid muscle strain, get off to a gentle start on this 18km ride along the voie verte no. 7 (Roscoff-Concarneau).

The crest circuit takes you to the heights of Gourin. Your efforts will be rewarded with magnificent views. You've done the hardest part, now you're going to descend to the old slate quarries. Enjoy the panoramic view of the Montagnes Noires, before returning to the centre of Gourin.

A little background information: Gourin became a major slate quarry with the arrival of the railway in 1892. However, after 150 years of activity, production of roofing slate came to a halt due to competition from the Angers slate quarries. The Gourin slate quarries closed in 1962, leaving us with some amazing landscapes to discover and the route of the old railway line, now a greenway.

For two days, you walked in the Pays du roi Morvan. You've been able to take in some splendid scenery, but there's still plenty more for you to discover. Don't hesitate to ask about all the walking routes.
