The start of a career far from Brittany, Le Saint, riding and horses

Didier Dubrui's life is quite simply incredible!

It began in Belgium, where he was born. It was his grandparents who brought him up, "They instilled important values in me. I had a great childhood!Like everyone else, he went to school and studied. But his real passion was sailing, to the point of making it his profession. He became director of a sailing school in Belgium and sometimes sailed as far as the coast of Brittany.

But how did he come to set up a ranch at Le Saint? Yes, yes, Le Saint near Le Faouët, not the Wild West! "I've always loved the world of farms and the animals you find there". Well, that's a good start, but still...

His experience of horse-riding as a child was not all happy. A fall and the people he met at the time did not inspire him to continue. "But I always liked the atmosphere on the farm and the work we did with the horses, and I often went to see a friend who breeds horses. Thanks to this friend, he got back in the saddle and discovered American riding, like the cowboys on the ranches in the United States. The first time he worked with cattle was a revelation! It was a magical moment for Didier.

I've always loved the world of farms and the animals on them.

Learning about the world of horses and breeding far from the King Morvan country

So he bought a horse, started taking lessons and learnt 'on the job'. It wasn't an ordinary thing to do, but nothing in his life was!

One fine day, he decided to leave everything behind in Belgium and found a job on a ranch in the USA. He stayed there for 3 years: 3 years of cowboy life. He remembers "a difficult world, a hard life where human relations count for a lot". He met a family of cowboys who made him love horses, dust, fences... and the importance of working in a team: "It's a hard and dangerous job where survival depends on colleagues".

He then returned to Belgium, marked by the 3 years he had spent on a ranch. This experience gave him ideas. He galloped off towards a new project: setting up his own ranch!

DD Ranch Work, a real ranch between Gourin and Le Faouët

Didier searched and searched, but he couldn't find any land in Belgium to build his ranch. Then he remembered a place not so far away that he'd seen when sailing: Brittany !

And it was love at first sight for the Le Saint countryside, between Gourin and Le Faouët! That's where he set up DD Ranch Work, 14 years ago. Alison joined him in 2018. They met at a competition. The twohorse-riding enthusiasts hit it off really well. So much so that, a few months later, Alison was working on the ranch with Didier!

Today, they run the business together. DD Ranch Work is :

98 hectares, 65 cattle, 44 horses, lessons, horse training and training courses on livestock techniques all over France.

DD Ranch Work only sells its meat production direct. "The clientele is mainly local, and word of mouth works well. There's now a waiting list for supplies!"
