Discover Gourin
Gourin, the highest commune in Morbihan, has a lot to offer. Hiking offers the perfect opportunity to explore the Montagnes Noires, and the charm of the Château de Tronjoly, a magnificent 18th-century building, leaves no one indifferent.
The Black Mountains
The Black Mountains overlook the town of Gourin. They owe their name to their characteristicdark appearance. Their colour comes from the concentration of black shale ore. The fantastic scenery guarantees a total connection with nature.
In the 16th century, they provided the perfect refuge for a notorious brigand: Guy Eder de La Fontenelle. It is estimated that he settled here with his 400 men in 1592 and that they stayed for a year.
But the Montagnes Noires are best known for their slate deposits and the slate quarries, which were already being exploited in the 15th century. However, it was not until the early 20th century that major quarries were opened right in the heart of the site.
Discover a former slate quarry site on the quarry trail (10, 5 km)!

Tronjoly Castle
More manor house than castle, the Tronjoly estate is nonetheless splendid. The name Tronjoly comes from the Breton "Traan-joliff" meaning beautiful valley.
The building dates back to 1426, when it was owned by the De Kergoët family and remained so until 1669. The manor then changed ownership several times. It was restored in the 19th century following a fire.
Today, the château can be visited during regular exhibitions, mainly in summer. All year round, you can enjoy the superb parkland that surrounds it. Many events take place here every year, including the Crêpe Festival and the Festival des Sonneurs, providing the perfect opportunity for a bucolic stroll!

A history linked ... to the United States!
When you arrive in Gourin's central square, you'll be surprised to see a representation of the Statue of Liberty! It bears witness to the links between the town and North America.
At the end of the 19th century, the region was going through a difficult economic period and some of the population emigrated to North America to try and make their fortune. Demand was so great that an Air France agency even opened in Roudouallec! As a souvenir, the airline donated a resin Statue of Liberty to the town of Gourin. You can see it at the heart of the fascinating Bretagne Transamerica exhibition, on the first floor of the Château de Tronjoly.

Hiking in all its forms
Gourin offers countless opportunities for hiking. On foot, by bike or on horseback, on signposted routes, you can discover a variety of landscapes to the rhythm of the seasons. The voie verte offers peace and safety. The Montagnes Noires offer breathtaking panoramas. And trail runners will find a fantastic training ground.
